Pride 2022

Pride 2022

PRIDE is a 365-day initiative at Disney Star

At Disney Star, we strongly focus on building an inclusive and bias-free workspace. We encourage all our employees to bring their authentic selves to work and strive to create an environment where they feel valued, respected and heard.

This Pride month, Disney Star launched a short film titled ‘Mix it Up’. The film represented the community and fostered inclusivity within the workspace. The project was led by a member of the community, created by Circus & Circus, a studio run by members who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community and the song film was choreographed by Terrence Lewis.

“Life is beautiful when we make space for everybody.”

“The theme of this Pride 2022 was understanding allyship- what it means to be an ally and what it means to the community. Allyship means breaking the loop of indifference while stepping out and celebrating our rightful place in the world.”

To be an ally means unlearning and learning new things. Allyship also means respecting the community and understanding what it means to be a part of it. To imbibe this sense of allyship, various informative communications about using the correct pronouns and learning about different gender identities were rolled out. We also held sessions focusing on mental health within the LGBTQIA+ community, namely ‘Trust Talks’. A prominent Bollywood celebrity had a fireside chat with our employees about topics ranging from representation of the community in the film industry, gender dysphoria, being bullied and rainbow parenting.

A PRIDE installation of Break The Loop was put up across all Disney Star offices in India.

Inclusivity and allyship are not just about communication but about policies bringing much-needed changes. Disney Star has policies that cover gender reaffirmation surgery, making it trans-inclusive. Our health insurance and medical insurance have the option to add LGBTQIA+ spouses or partners as beneficiaries. Our parental policies, including the leave policies, expand to our LGBTQIA+ employees to include alternate options to conceive, such as IVF, surrogacy and adoption.

Disney Star is committed to constantly evolving, innovating and creating safe places where our employees can inspire and grow.
