Aamir Khan grabs eyeballs with TV debut Satyamev Jayate

13 May 2012

Aamir Khan’s first television show Satyamev Jayate managed to hook quite a number of eyeballs with its maiden episode on May 6.

According to TAM Media Research, the show garnered a television rating point (TRP) of 3.79 in the top three metros in the Hindi Speaking Market (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata) on Star Plus. One TRP means 1 per cent of the available television audience was watching that particular show at that time.

Over 8 million television viewers tuned in to their television sets to watch the prime telecast on that day in the top six metros across nine channels.

The show was simultaneously telecast on Star Plus, Star Pravah, DD National, Star Utsav, Vijay, Star Jalsha, Star World and Asianet.

Overall viewership rating across nine channels in the six metros stood at 4.08. The figure is for the sample size of cable and satellite viewers above the age of four. Overall viewership is the percentage share of universe watching particular program at any point of time during the telecast. The overall viewership rating across the terrestrial and cable and satellite markets was a tad higher at 4.27.

Media planners say that the show has garnered a good opening. Sanjoy Chakrabarty, Managing Partner, Zenith Optimedia, said, “The overall viewership across the channels indicates the show has generated high ratings, considering it is being aired at an unconventional slot.”

Ms Anita Kotwani, Principal Partner- client leadership, Mindshare, said, “The initial numbers look promising. As far as traction in regional markets is concerned, some are good, while others are expected to pick up in the coming weeks.”

Ms Sujata Dwibedy, Associate Vice President of VivaKi Exchange said, “The opening television rating points are decent, considering it is aired in the Sunday morning slot. The channel has adopted a smart marketing strategy to promote the show and will help develop this slot in the future.”
