Aamir sheds a tear to corner ‘eyeballs’ as television debut nears

16 April 2012

Aamir Khan may say television rating points (TRP) mean nothing to him, but the way he has planned the launch of his show Satyamev Jayate, it is clear that he wants to ensure the maximum viewership for his grand television debut.

Come May 6, Satyamev Jayate will go on air on no less than nine channels - Doordarshan (DD) and the remaining eight of the Star TV network - in the coveted 'Sunday, 11am' slot that once belonged to the blockbuster TV shows B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat and Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan.

This is the first time an Indian show will be aired simultaneously on such a large number of channels, dubbed in a host of regional languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Aamir unveiled these details on Friday during an event to launch the show's theme song. Speaking about his pet project, he said: 'Our show deals with the day-to-day life of people and the issues they face.

'I want everyone to watch it. I want people of all ages to come together and watch our show as they watched the epics in the past.'

Although the superstar refrained from revealing the finer details, the buzz suggests he will invite regular people from across the country and address the problems they face.

'I am a very emotional person and broke down a couple of times when I heard the stories of the people I met while shooting for the show,' Aamir said.

He described the show's theme song - composed by Ram Sampath and penned by Prasoon Joshi, both of whom were present at the event - as 'a romantic number that tries to show his love for his country'.
