GEC Watch: Colors retains No. 2 position as others lose viewership

Star Plus continues to dominate weekday programming with 4 shows in top 10 followed by Zee TV with 3 shows and Colors with 2 shows.

Week 40 of TAM 2014 saw all Hindi general entertainment channels except Colors lose viewership. Colors maintained last week’s viewership on the back of the world television premiere of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ on October 2 that fetched 3.7 TVM. However, there was no change in the pecking order of the GECs.
According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 40 of TAM 2014 (September 28 – October 4) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus retained leadership position despite losing maximum eyeballs, followed by Colors at No. 2 and Zee TV at No. 3. Life OK, SAB TV and Sony were at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Star Plus lost maximum 44 TVMs this week and recorded a viewership of 549 GTVM with a relative share of 24.81% (last week 593 GTVM and 26.16% of relative share).
Colors retained No. 2 position as its flagship reality show Bigg Boss Season 8 entered second week. The channel fetched a gross viewership of 433 GTVM with a relative share of 19.57% (last week 431 GTVM and 19.01% of relative share).
At No. 3, Zee TV slipped further and recorded a gross viewership of 401 GTVM with 18.12% relative share (last week 427 GTVM and 18.84% relative share).
Life OK too witnessed a marginal decline in ratings this week. It recorded a gross viewership of 299 GTVM and a relative share of 13.51% (last week 307 GTVM and 13.54% of relative share).
SAB TV was at No. 5 position with a gross viewership of 254 GTVM. The channel had a relative share of 11.48% (last week 262 TVM and 11.56% of relative share).
Sony lost further and reduced to 234 GTVM with a relative share of 10.57% (last week 247 GTVM and 10.90% of relative share).
Sony Pal fetched 23 GTVM with a relative share of 1.04% (last week 26 GTVM).
Zindagi too witnessed a slight drop this week and recorded 20 GTVM with a relative share of 0.9% (last week 26 GTVM).
Top Shows:
‘Bigg Boss Season 8’ on Colors fetched an average viewership of 3.7 TVM against first week’s average of 4 TVM in Week 40.
While Star Plus retained the top slot with ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’, the channel dominated weekday programming with 4 shows in the top 10. Zee TV had 3 shows in the top 10 followed by Colors with 2 shows and SAB TV with one show.
‘Comedy Night with Kapil’ on Colors remained the most watched show during the weekend.

Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum retained the top slot in week 40. The show recorded an average viewership of 7.8 TVM this week (last week 8.2 TVM).
Zee TV’s Jodha Akbar retained No. 2 position with an average viewership of 7.2 TVM (last week 7.8 TVM).
Star Plus’ Sathiya Saath Nibhana rose one position to No. 3 this week. The show fetched an average viewership of 7.1 TVM (last week 6.7 TVM).
Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV slipped to No. 4 position with an average viewership of 6.5 TVM (last week 7.3 TVM).
Ye Hai Mohabbatein on Star Plus continued to perform well at 7.30 PM slot and entered the top-5 club. The show recorded 6.5 TVM this week (last week 6.7 TVM).
Jamai Raja on Zee TV jumped one position to No. 6 this week. The show garnered an average viewership of 6 TVM (last week 6.4 TVM).
Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai slipped two positions at No. 7 this week. The show recorded an average viewership of 5.9 TVM (last week 6.7  TVM).
Colors’ Sasural Simar Ka was at No. 8 with an average viewership of 5.9 TVM (last week 5.8 TVM).
Tarak Mehta on SAB TV held No. 9 position with an average viewership of 5.1 TVM against last week’s 5.7 TVM.
Udaan on Colors entered the top-10 club with an average viewership of 5.1 TVM (last week 5.6 TVM).
Weekend toppers
Colors’ Comedy Nights With Kapil topped the weekend chart with viewership of 5.1 TVM (last week 6.7).
Sony’s crime series, CID, fetched 2.9 TVM against last week’s 3.4 TVM.
Zee TV’s Neeli Chhatri Wale held its viewership at 2.8 TVM (last week 2.8 TVM).
Star Plus’ weekend singing reality show, India’s Raw Star, fetched 2 TVM (last week 3.2 TVM).
Shapath on Life Ok was at 1.7 TVM (last week 1.8).
Sony’s crime show, Crime Patrol fetched an average viewership of 1.6 TVM (last week 1.6 TVM).
Life OK’s Dare to Dance dropped to 1.5 TVM against last week’s 2.3 TVM.
Airlines on Star Plus fetched 1.4 TVM (last week 2.4).
