GEC Watch: KBC pushes Sony up to No. 4; Star Plus loses viewership

Star Plus lost 130 GTVM but held its leadership position. Sony added 103 GTVM on the back of KBC in Week 34 of TAM 2014. Zee TV acquires top two fiction slots.

Star Plus’ gross viewership went down by 130 GTVM in Week 34 of TAM 2014. However, the channel maintained its leadership position. Star Plus’ loss was Sony’s gain as the later added 103 TVM in its gross viewership and jumped to fourth position from last week’s sixth position.
On the other hand, Zee TV continued to grow on the back of its fiction shows. The channel acquired the top two slots – Jodha Akbar at No. 1 and Kumkum Bhagya at No. 2 – this week while it was the slot leader in the 8 PM – 10 PM time band.
According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 34 of TAM 2014 (August 17 – August 23) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus was followed by Zee TV at No. 2 and Colors at No. 3. Sony jumped two positions to No. 4 pushing Life OK to No. 5 and SAB TV to No. 6.
Star Plus recorded a gross viewership of 559 GTVMs, a drop of 130 GTVM from last week. The channel’s relative share was at 23.87% (last week 689 GTVM and 28.76 of relative share).
Zee TV continued to grow this week and recorded a gross viewership of 464 GTVM with 19.81% relative share (last week 453 GTVM and 18.91% relative share).
Colors too lost eyeballs this week and slipped to 377 GTVM with a relative share of 16.10% (last week 411 GTVM and 17.15% of relative share).
Sony gained big in the launch week of Kaun Banega Crorepati and the channel added 103 TVM to its gross viewership. The channel jumped to No. 4 position with 366 GTVM and a relative share of 15.63% (last week 263 GTVM and 10.98% of relative share).
Life OK slipped to No. 5 position this week. The channel recorded a gross viewership of 288 GTVM and a relative share of 12.30% (last week 302 GTVM and 12.60% of relative share).
SAB TV slipped to No. 6 position this week with a gross viewership of 288 GTVM. The channel had a relative share of 12.60% (last week 278 TVM and 11.60% of relative share).
