GEC Watch: Star Plus clocks highest ratings recorded in history

14 February 2014

Week 6 was historic in the Hindi general entertainment space with Star Plus recording the highest weekly TVMs in Indian television history by any channel with 728 TVMs. Last record was created by Star Sports which had fetched 645 million gross TVM in Cricket World Cup finale week. The channel took a huge leap on the back of extended weekday programming and the Star Guild Awards. The Monday to Saturday move to fiction worked exceptionally well with most shows growing their ratings while Star Guild Awards fetched 8.1 TVM.

According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 6 of TAM 2014 (February 2 – February 8) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus is not only led the pack with a huge margin but the channel is the leader in every slot in weekday primetime barring 8 PM. Zee TV held second position followed by Colors at No. 3, Life OK at No. 4, SAB TV at No. 5 and Sony at No. 6.

Star Plus took a giant leap by adding 101 million TVT which is a record jump for any GEC in a week. The channel clocked a record viewership of 728 million. With GTVM of 728 million, the channel had a relative share of 28.72% (last week 627 million TVT with 24.63% relative share).
