GEC Watch: Weekend programming boosts Star Plus and Zee TV

With 6.5 TVM, IIFA Awards pushes Star Plus up while Zee TV’s DID finale fetches 4.7 TVM. Zee’s weekday programming also improves in Week 25.

Even as the three leading Hindi general entertainment channels – Star Plus, Zee TV and Life OK – grew significantly in Week 25, the entire category continued to remain subdued and was 130 GTVMs lower than pre-power cut weeks. While Star Plus’ growth was accelerated by IIFA Awards that fetched 6.5 TVM over 3.5 hours, Zee TV’s growth was backed by both weekend and weekday programming. DID L’il Masters finale delivered 4.7 TVM to Zee TV over 3.5 hours.

According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 25 of TAM 2014 (June 15 – June 21) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus continued to lead with seven shows in the top 10 weekday shows followed by Zee TV with two shows and SAB TV with one show.

Among regular weekend programming, Colors retained its leadership with ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ at the top slot followed by ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ at No. 2.

Weekday toppers (all data in TVM, 000000’s)

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus continued to be at the top with an average viewership of 9 TVM (last week 9.4 TVM).

Star Plus’Saathiyajumped one position to No. 2 with an average viewership of 8.1 TVM (last week 6.9).

Jodha Akbaron Zee TV slipped one position to No. 3 despite any change in its viewership. The show averaged at 7.7 TVM (last week 7.7 TVM).

SAB’s Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma jumped three positions to No. 4 with an average viewership of 7 TVM (last week 6.2 TVM).

Star Plus’ epic series,Mahabharat,slipped one positions to No. 5 this week. The show fetched an average viewership of 6.4 TVM this week (last week 6.5 TVM).

Star Plus’Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hairetained No. 6 position with an average viewership of 6.1 TVM (last week 6.2 TVM).

Yeh Hai Mohabbateinon Star Plus slipped two positions to No. 7. The show recorded an average viewership of 5.7 TVM (last week 6.3 TVM).

Pyaar Ka Dard Haion Star Plus climbed one position to No. 8 despite some decline in its viewership. The show dropped to 5 TVM (last week 5.3).

Kumkum Bhagyaon Zee TV entered the top 10 club with an average viewership of 4.9 TVM this week (last week 3.5 TVM).

Veeraon Star Plus slipped two positions to No. 10 this week with an average viewership of 4.8 TVM (last week 5.5 TVM).

Weekend toppers

Comedy Night with Kapilon Colors retained the top slot among regular weekend programming. The show fetched an average viewership of 5.9 TVM (last week 5.9).

Colors’ celebrity dance reality showJhalak Dikhhla Jaadropped to 4.1 TVM in its third week. (last week 5.6).

Backed by grand finale ofDance India Dance L’il Masters Season 3 on Zee TV that fetched 4.7 TVM over 3.5 hours, the show averaged at 3.7 TVM this week (last week 3.1 TVM).

Sony’s crime series,CID, fetched 3.3 TVM against last week’s 3.4 TVM.

Life OK’sShapathgrew to 2.7 TVM (last week 2.9).

Sony’s second crime show,Crime Patrol,garnered 2.4 TVM (last week 2.2).

Sony’sEntertainment Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karegafetched an average viewership of 2.1 TVM (last week 2.2).

HatimonLife OK recorded 1.8 TVM (last week 2).

Mission Sapnedropped this week to 1.7 TVM from 2.8 TVM in last week.

Fear Fileson Zee TV fetched 1.7 TVM this week (last week 1.7).
