IPL to fight it out with Aamir Khan’s TV debut

Aamir Khan said his TV debut will not be decided keeping the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League in mind. Bollywood star, who was seen cheering India during the World Cup final will have his TV show contending with the cash-rich league.Actors as well as channels have been known to launch shows before the tournament starts, or wait till it ends. But Aamir, whose show on Star Plus as anchor-producer is yet untitled, opines, “I don’t say that cricket is not a religion in our country. People are glued to their TV screens when our players are battling against the other big teams in international cricket. The grounds are brimming with heads, cheering for team India. But it’s a different ball game with the IPL matches.”The actor says that his show, regardless of when it’s ready, will be undeterred by IPL or any other big show on air at that point. “Every show has its own following. IPL is watched by thousands of enthusiasts, but the matches are not very long. And not every day do you have two matches in a row. Not every team interests everyone. Besides, every single individual in the country doesn’t watch all the matches from start to finish,” he argues. “So whenever we’re ready with content, we’ll take the show on air.”Aamir is yet to decide whether he’d produce his show in the American format, where the episodes are shot beforehand, or if he’d shoot and air episodes on the go. Even the duration of the episodes is undecided. “I think with social issues as the core of my show, I’d like to shoot parts of it beforehand and parts of it as we take it on air. It’s ideal to showcase something that’s newsy because viewers can relate better with what’s being discussed,” he says, adding that every cause that has had an effect on society in recent times stands a chance on his show.
