Life OK to launch action series ‘Pukaar- Call for Hero’

11 November 2014

The new show is slated to go on air from November 24, every Monday and Tuesday at 8.30 PM with 24 episodes.

Life OK is all set to launch its new fiction property ‘Pukaar-Call for the Hero’ which is a story of a committed Army man and his responsibilities towards the nation and his family. The action serial, in association with Vipul Amrutlal Shah, is slated to go on air from November 24, every Monday and Tuesday at 8.30 PM after replacing ‘Tumhari Pakhi’. 24 episodes have been drafted and planned for the Season One of this new show.
Commenting on the uniqueness of the new property, Ajit Thakur, EVP and General Manager, Life OK said, “The USP of Pukaar, other than its main gripping story line which revolves around the life of a commando, also has a linear track which is equally important. It is about a father-son estranged relationship, where the son longs to get back his father’s lost love. Unlike the other GECs, who target women, Life OK programming is always male centric. However, saying this, Pukaar’s TG is family, with men being the primary target.”
Rannvijay, who plays the role of the protagonist Major Rajveer Shergill, is caught between his inhibitions and his tumultuous life. While trying to earn his father’s love, played by Raj Babbar, in a sudden turn of events, his brother goes missing. Amidst all this chaos, Rajveer finds solitude in the company of his childhood friend, Aarti, who is his only support and stands by him.
On asking Thakur, the reason behind the 8.30pm slot, he said, “We had initial plans of launching this serial as a weekend property. But then, we realised that it wouldn’t remain a novel concept, instead we tried to experiment with a new bi-weekly one hour format. This slot was earlier occupied by Tumhari Pakhi. We have also changed the format of ‘Laut Aao Trisha’ which from now on will become a one hourly show and will be aired on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.”
Pukaar marks the television debut of actors Rannvijay Singh and Adah Sharma and the comeback of legendary actor Raj Babbar. Deven Bhojani, actor turned director will be co-directing the show along with Vipul A Shah. Shot in the beautiful locations of Manali and Mumbai, Pukaar promises never seen before action, thrill, suspense, emotion and romance to its viewers.
According to him, for the marketing of the show, the channel is heavily relying on PR activities. As a result of which for the first time, Life OK had a screening for the Mumbai media and showed them the first episode of the show which will launch two weeks later. The channel heads are considering this as a bold step which has not been done by any channel before. Other than the usual digital and the print stuffs, there will be longer one minute promo running on the channel to let people have a glimpse of Pukaar and peak their excitement level.
Thakur said, “We have got good responses from the sponsors. LIC is our powered by sponsors and we are yet to finalise our presenting sponsors.”
Commenting on the magnitude of the show, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Producer, said, “After my last three films- Force, Commando and Holiday which were based on Men In Uniform, I bring my love for the Army to small screen with Pukaar- call for the Hero. Rannvijay comes from an Army background and therefore, he is perfect fit for the character. With this show, I intend to raise the bar of action to a different level altogether for the small screen. We have used the best of technicians, cameras, gadgets and locations for the show. With so much on the plate, the show will be a delight for the television viewers.”
Thakur also spoke of Savdhaan India, the channel’s crime property which has recently touched 1,000 episodes and on November 17, the show will come up with Season 3 with more focus on the ‘fight back attitude’. He commented, “The current mood of the nation is anger and we are frustrated with our surroundings. The reason why this show has always managed good viewership is because it is socially relevant and what makes it interesting is the involvement of five to six producers on board for a particular episode.”
