Star Plus retains TV Channel of the Year award

Star Plus was named TV Channel at the second Asian Media Awards.

It was the second year running the channel had been presented with the accolade.
The Asian Media Awards were held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate and were sponsored by the University of Salford and Asons Solicitors.
The channel has had another outstanding year with viewership figures topping a weekly reach of over 1 million. The programming predominantly consists of family dramastelefilms and celebrity chat shows and shows including ‘Survivor’ and the Indian version of ‘Masterchef’. In 2012 it became the first Asian channel to launch a HD channel.
The award was presented to Gurjeev Singh Kapoor, President of Star International Business by TV actor Bhasker Patel who is presently appearing on British TV soap Emmerdale.
Mr Singh Kapoor said, “Thanks to the panel and thanks in particular to all the Asian viewers for watching Star TV and making us number 1.
“We feel we have the best quality content and good consumer connections.
“We have brilliant programming in line for the new year too. We are very innovative in our programming and content so are looking forward to another successful year.”
Special awards on the night went to Krishnan Guru-Murthy who was named Media Personality of the Year; Nina Wadia who collected the Sophiya Haque Services to British Television Award and Waris Hussein who was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Media Award.
The Best Investigation Award went to Ross Kemp for the Extreme World: India episode. Chris Bisson was named as Best TV character.
Event partners included ITV, MediaCom and Press Association Training.

Star Group country head Middle East, Africa & Pakistan Sumantra (Sumo) Dutta said, “This is a landmark initiative in our quest to reach out and make the top watched and favourite Star channels available to the widest set of viewers.”

Star Pravah chalks out marketing strategy to promote new look

Star Pravah channel head Prem Kamath said, “We are looking to target a slightly more upscale audience. We have also altered the broadcast design by bringing in different visual grammar and stay away from the traditional way of storytelling.”

Star Sports sells title sponsorship of Asia Cup 2014 to Arise India

Nitin Kukreja, Head of Sports Business, Star India, said, “We are delighted to have Arise India as the title sponsor of Asia Cup 2014. The tournament is getting interesting traction from the advertising fraternity. We are focusing on monetising the on-air sales while we have partnered with Technology Frontiers to focus on Asia Cup 2014 Ground Sponsorship management.”
