UK ratings: Star Plus surges pass 1.2m weekly reach

 Even though its weekday fictions have slipped in the ratings, the channel overall continues to climb up in the UK ratings.

According to official data from BARB for week ending Sunday 26th October, Star Plus was top choice during Diwali week.
The channel attracted a reach of 1,221,000 viewers – up from 1,134,000 last week. UMP Movies remained the second choice amongst the Asian TV channels with 751,000 viewers (down from 854,000 viewers) and Colors in third with 719,000 viewers (up from 703,000 viewers). Rishtey was in fourth with 672,000 viewers (down from 702,000 viewers) and Zing rounding off the Top 5 with 646,00 viewers (641,000 viewers).
The next tier saw Star Life Ok with 522,000 viewers (last week 533,000 viewers), Star Gold was next with 456,000 viewers (last week 413,000 viewers), SAB TV with 413,000 viewers (last week 562,000 viewers), Lamhe with 367,000 viewers (last week 347,000), Hum TV Europe with 356,000 viewers (last week 522,000 viewers).
The bottom tier consisted of PTC Punjabi with 183,000 viewers (last week 258,000) and PTV Global with 218,000 viewers (last week 152,000 viewers).
ARY News was the leading South Asian news channel with 501,000 viewers (last week 516,000 viewers), followed by Geo News with 253,000 viewers, SAMAA TV with 243,000 viewers, ABP News with 226,000 viewers, Aaj Tak with 215,000 viewers, NDTV 24×7 with 188,000 viewers and News18 India with 64,000 viewers.

Is the Media in trouble? Mumbai Press Club holds discussion on subject

Uday Shankar, Star India CEO said, “Just because the media has become capital-intensive, doesn’t mean that it has to compromise on your integrity. Every business has to have a value system, and the editor needs to be sensitive to that. Journalists need to wake up to the economic reality, and it can’t be denied. On the other hand, those who recognise that are willing to swing to the other extreme and do anything. That also is neither healthy nor sustainable.”

Channel V plans more events

Prem Kamath, channel head, Channel V, adds, "Participation has gone up by almost 100 per cent. We have had 500-600 participants earlier, this year we had about 1000 participants in each zonal."

Star India inks distribution deal with Etisalat to offer 17 channels in UAE

Star Group country head Middle East, Africa & Pakistan Sumantra (Sumo) Dutta said, “This is a landmark initiative in our quest to reach out and make the top watched and favourite Star channels available to the widest set of viewers.”
