World Cup 2015: Umpire communications to be on air for knockout stages

18 March 2015

The ICC on Tuesday confirmed that TV umpire communications during decision-making will be put to air for the knockout stages of the cricket World Cup.

With the first quarterfinal between Sri Lanka and South Africa scheduled to begin tomorrow at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the audio feed of the on field officials with the third umpire will be made available to the host broadcasters Star Sports, said a media release. The International Cricket Council held a successful trial during the ODI series between Australia and South Africa in November last year, and it will be introduced for the final seven matches - 4 quarters, 2 semifinals and the final - of the 50-overs showpiece event. The umpire communications can be aired during umpire referrals, consultations and DRS player reviews.
